The companies recognized, that the best way to cope with the crisis is to save on their employees, and ceased to pay the salaries. Whereas the governmental solution – which was to help get the funds for salaries – turned out unsuccessful.
The Fund of Guaranteed Employee Benefits (FGŚP) had to pay twice the money in order to satisfy the claims of the employees, who did not receive their benefits. The economic crisis was the major cause of the increase in expenses. This is confirmed by the data from the National Employment Inspectorate. Last year, the number of employers, who failed to pay salaries to their workforce, was increased by as much as 63%. The inspectors ordered the payment of the benefits amounting to 142 million PLN. In turn, FGŚP spent as much as 190 million PLN on benefits for the employees of insolvent companies.
